SIDs and STARs just got easier

Now adding SID and STAR procedures to your Golden Eagle Plus or ChartCase Professional software is easier than ever in version 6.2.2. You can still add the procedures through the Route Wizard but now you can add and remove them from the Route menu too. Just select either SID or STAR from the Route menu. Additionally, ChartCase’s InFlight mode has two more ways to select SIDs and STARs. The first way is off of the route list menu and second is off of the system menu in InFlight.

Here is a walk-through of how the function works in the planner:
  1. First plan a flight, in this example we are going to plan an IFR direct flight from North Las Vegas (VGT) to Riverside (RAL) using the Generic Piper Arrow (PA-28R-200) aircraft.
  2. Next, select Route from the Menu bar and then Select SID...
  3. Once the Select SID window opens, select the procedure that you wish to fly and then select OK. In this example we are going to choose the North Town 2 Departure (NOTWN2.LAS). If you are ever unsure of which procedure you would like to fly you can always right click on an airport in the route list and select the View Approaches option or go to the approaches tab and search for the airport. Arrivals are listed towards the top of the airport list and Departures are listed at the bottom after the approaches and airport diagram(s).
  4. Once you select a SID (in this case the North Town 2) it will be added to your route list.
  5. To remove a procedure from your route open the SID or STAR window and select Remove SID or Remove STAR.
  6. To add a STAR the process is almost exactly the same. Select the Route option from the menu bar and Select Star...
  7. Once you see the Select Star window select the Arrival you would like to fly. In this example we are going to choose the Ziggy 4 arrival with the Hector VOR (HEC) transition. Notice that for arrivals the transition is prior to the arrival name, just opposite of the Departures since you hit the transition point first. Now the HEC.ZIGGY4 procedure is part of our route list.
  8. Adding Departures and Arrivals also adds the procedure to your Flight Plan for filing and also to the Flight Plan report.

Now let’s see how SIDs and STARs can be added in the InFlight mode using the same example:
  1. Once in InFlight select your departure airport from the route list, the menu will automatically open and you will have a number of options. If you do not know which Departure you wish to or have been assigned to fly select the Approaches button and you will be taken to a view all of the procedures for your selected airport. Once you choose a departure select the Select SID button from the route list menu or the system menu (the menu that opens when you select menu twice) and select the SID you wish to add.
  2. If you also wish to add an arrival it is again very similar to the addition of a departure. First figure out which Arrival procedure you want or have been assigned, select the Select STAR button. The buttons are available in both the Route list menu and the System menu. Then select the arrival from the list.
  3. Once the arrival is selected all of the waypoints will be added to your route.

That’s it! Quick and easy. Please note that airports that do not have either arrivals or departures or only have vector based procedures may not display anything in the list for SID or STAR. If there is a special procedure in effect (e.g. arrivals or departures into Oshkosh (OSH) during AirVenture) it will not be listed. Only procedures in the approach book will be listed.

As always, if you have questions please email support@flightprep.com or give us a call.
